Will You Help Me Pay A YouTuber To Save The World?
Finally, a call to action or maybe some thing to do other than reading and weeping.

I had a very simple idea to spread these ideas that I have found so beautiful and hopeful (read: the Land Value Tax and sortition).
What if we just paid a really popular YouTuber to just…hear us out?
Would you support this?
You know, while I wouldn’t mind becoming a world-famous blogger, I’ve only just now hit 103 free subscribers + 1 paid(!) subscriber.
Do you know the YouTube channel Veritasium? He has 17.6 million subscribers.
ChatGPT says that, given his popularity, an hour of Mr. Veritasium’s time would cost around $2,000.
His videos are mostly about unexpected applications of science to daily life. Several months ago, he made a video “Why Democracy Is Mathematically Impossible” that investigates voting methodologies. I think voting reform is the gateway drug to sortition and we need to hook this guy up with the good shit: sortition.
Would you support this financially? Respond here.
I’m not 100% sure how I will pitch this to him. I don’t want to come across as a scammer, but I want to get his attention. I think I would pitch, like…just asking him for a promise to listen to a presentation on what sortition is, what it hopes to achieve, where it has been done, and then to have a good-faith discussion to answer any questions he has. The hope is to make a true convert, but failing that, to maybe at least persuade him this idea is interesting enough to, yeah, make a video about it.
I want to set up some kind of crowdfunding that would allow for everyone to pledge to support this effort, but which would only charge anyone’s credit cards after we’ve confirmed that Mr. Veritasium will meet.
Alternatively, are there other channels you think would be a better fit?
Do you have any other thoughts on this?

And also, I’ve written a draft of the email I could send to Veritasium:

I will solicit more feedback on how/what/when/who/why/where to proceed, if there’s interest in this. Even if none of you like this idea actually, me and Ian and Janning are going to try it, but we probably would only be able to offer Mr. Veritasium a few hundred bucks.
Yours truly,
Max
